WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • Madyson Watson earned her 4th win of the season tossing a complete game allowing one unearned run on two hits
  • Eagles put up three runs in the first inning, which were all the runs they needed
  • With one away, Morgan Lowers was hit by a pitch and then stole second to move into scoring position
  • Following a Blake Wallert pop up to the second baseman in shallow right, Ashley Westbrooks stepped in and took the first pitch to single as Lowers scored from second
  • Brooke Ellison singled to put runners at the corners as Westbrooks hustled around to third
  • Ellison stole second to put two runners in scoring position before Taylor Charlton hit a fly ball to left that looked like the end of the inning
  • Longwood leftfielder Jordan Clark was under the fly ball from Charlton but the ball popped out of her glove and fell to the ground which allowed Westbrooks and Ellison to score
  • Watson had a perfect game into the 5th when she issued two one-out walks but kept the Lancers hitless and scoreless getting the last two outs of the inning on fly outs
  • In the 6th inning Watson lost the no-hit bid with two outs on a single up the middle by Clark
  • Clark then stole second and moved to third on an error as Keleigh Romine bobbled the ball
  • Longwood took advantage as Kaylynn Batten singled through the hole at short for its lone run of the game
Game 2
  • Eagles struck in the first inning again as they pushed two across
  • It started when Romine struck out swinging but hustled to first safely as the pitch she swung at got away from the catcher
  • Lowers then singled up the middle as Romine moved to second
  • With one out Westbrooks singled through the left side and moved to second on the throw as Lowers scored
  • Ellison scored Wallert from third base on a ground out to second for the 2-0 lead
  • A couple of fielding errors led to two runs in the third as Longwood tied the game
  • In the top of the 4th the Lancers took the lead as Jenna Dunn led off with a homerun
  • Longwood hit another leadoff homerun in the sixth as Clark hit one just over the fence in right
  • Eagles had a runner in scoring position in every inning from the fourth on, but were unable to get the hits they needed
  • With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Romine beat out an infield single to short and then moved to second on a Lowers single to left center
  • Wallert had a good swing but flied out to left to end the possible rally
  • Bella Roy made her second career start allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits in four innings
EXTRA BASES
  • Westbrooks and Romine both finished the day with four-game hitting streaks and Ellison has now reached base in six straight games
  • Lowers had her 11th multi-hit game of the season, which is four shy of her career-best of 15 multi-hit games she achieved as a freshman
  • Winthrop finished the doubleheader with 14 runners left on base as it was 2-for-23 with runners in scoring position
  • The last three seasons the matchups between Longwood and Winthrop have been tight as the last nine meetings have been decided by two runs or less as have 11 of the last 12
  • In the three game series Longwood outscored the Eagles 11-9
