ROCK HILL, SC - Winthrop was unable to claim a series victory over Penn this weekend, losing 13-5 to the Quakers at the Winthrop Ballpark on Sunday. The Eagles drop to 6-8 on the season after losing two of three this weekend, and Penn improves to 4-4 with the series victory. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Penn was able to get to Winthrop starting pitcher Thad Harris early, chasing the left hander after four innings of work. Harris allowed six runs (five earned) on nine Penn hits, striking out one and walking three. Harris took the loss on Sunday to drop to 0-2 on the season. 

- Braxton Foley had a rough outing out of the bullpen in relief of Harris. The freshman faced five batters in the fifth inning and failed to retire a man, allowing three hits and five runs (four earned), walking one batter. 

- Three other bullpen arms went the rest of the way for the Eagles, all of which had solid outings but had their performances overshadowed by the large Penn lead. Jason Crumley (3.0 innings, one earned run), Macklin Ohs (1.0 scoreless in his 2019 debut) and Bryan Petta (1.0 inning, one earned run) helped stop the bleeding and give the Eagle offense a chance to work back into the game. 

- Winthrop managed five runs on ten hits offensively, much of which came in a four-run eighth inning when the Quakers held a double digit lead. 

NOTABLES 

- Scout McFalls went 3-3 off the bench on Sunday, singling three times and scoring a run. 

- Spencer continued his hot hitting clip, going 2-5 with a run scored. 

UP NEXT:  The Eagles will host Bryant at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night at the Winthrop Ballpark.
