GAINESVILLE, FL. - Winthrop baseball dropped the opening game of the three game set with Florida on Friday night by a 16-4 score. The Gators used nine fourth inning runs to get seperation, and with the win improved to 7-4 on the season. Winthrop drops to 3-4 with the loss and looks to even the series in Saturday's game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles opened the scoring in the top of the first when
Hunter Lipscomb walked with the bases loaded, allowing
Scout McFalls to come across. The Eagles used three free passes and an error to plate their run in the first inning.
- Florida plated one run in the second and two more in the third to take a 3-1 lead before the Eagles got one back in the top of the fourth when
Jake Sullivan hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring
Hunter Lipscomb.
- Friday's game was blown open in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Florida scored nine runs and sent fifteen men to the plate to take what was then a 12-2 lead. The Eagles used three different pitchers in the inning.
- In the top of the fifth,
Matthew Mulkey hit his second home run of the year, a line drive over the left field wall to make it a 12-3 game.
- The Eagles scored their fourth run in the top of the eighth when
Jake Sullivan drove in
Dillon Morton with an infield single.

- With his single in the third inning,
Grant English has now hit safely in all seven ballgames this season.
