ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (3-2) earned a 5-2 victory over Davidson (4-2) Wednesday afternoon at Rock Hill Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-Winthrop opened with a dominant doubles point win, taking courts one and two, 6-2 and 6-1, respectively.
-Davidson evened the match with a win at the No. 4 position from Samantha Armas over Rafaela Santos, but the Eagles quickly answered as No. 32 Lauren Proctor downed Megan Scholvinck in straight sets minutes later.
-Winthrop would clinch the match with wins by Ellie Burns and Tayla Van Eck at No. 6 and No. 5 with Van Eck delivering the clinching point.
-As the squads played out the final two courts, both went into deciding third sets which the two teams would split. Senior Megan Kauffman would fall in the final two sets after winning the first, while junior Alisa Soloveva took her final third set.   

NOTABLES
-Sophomore Tayla Van Eck posted her first singles victory of the season with a 7-5, 6-1 straight-set win over Davidson's Elizabeth Truluck.

-The Eagles have won the doubles point in each of their three victories so far this season.

-No. 20 All-Americans Kauffman/Proctor are undefeated at court one doubles at 4-0.

-In an exhibition singles match, freshman Camila Andrade defeated Davidson's Alyssa Hahn 6-4, 6-3.

LATEST RANKINGS RELEASED WEDNESDAY
In the latest ITA/Oracle Division I National Rankings released Wednesday, Megan Kauffman and Lauren Proctor moved up to No. 20 in the nation in the doubles rankings, while Proctor jumped to No. 32 in the singles list.
