ATLANTA, Ga. – Winthrop women's tennis (2-2) was edged 4-3 on the road in an NCAA Tournament rematch with Georgia Tech (1-3) on Saturday afternoon at the Ken Byers tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-Georgia Tech took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three, leaving court one undecided with Winthrop's All-American duo of Megan Kauffman and Lauren Proctor ahead 5-4.
 
-The Yellow Jackets and Eagles would trade straight-set singles wins on courts three and two, with Alisa Soloveva earning Winthrop's first point of the day with her 6-3, 6-3 victory over Tech's Jeanette Lin.
 
-Georgia Tech clinched victory with two more singles wins at courts five and four, as Tayla Van Eck battled for three sets and Rafaela Santos fell a few tiebreak points short of forcing a third set.
 
-As play continued, No. 66 Lauren Proctor took down No. 24 Kenya Jones in three sets at court one, an important match for rankings and postseason play implications. At court six, Ellie Burns fought back from dropping her first set 6-0 to win the final two sets 7-5, 7-5 and take the match.  

NOTABLES
-No. 66 Lauren Proctor improves to 3-0 on the season in singles play, adding a crucial win over a nationally ranked player to her season resume.

The Eagles enjoy the friendly confines of Rock Hill Tennis Center for two home matches this week, hosting Davidson on Weds., Feb. 6 and College of Charleston on Fri., Feb. 8. Both matches are scheduled at 2 p.m.; admission is free.
