CLINTON, S.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (5-3, 1-0) opened Big South Conference play with a 7-0 sweep of Presbyterian College (7-4, 1-1) Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-The Eagles opened up with the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. No. 31 duo Megan Kauffman and Lauren Proctor led off the action with a 6-1 victory at court one, while Tayla Van Eck and Ellie Burns sealed the point with a 7-5 win at court three.
 
-The top of the ladder kept the momentum going in singles action, as No. 51 Lauren Proctor and Alisa Soloveva cruised to straight set wins at courts one and two, respectively, for a 3-0 lead.
 
-Van Eck clinched the team victory with her second straight-set win of the season, a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 5.
 
-Megan Kauffman and Ellie Burns added two more straight-set wins at courts three and six, and Rafaela Santos rounded out the sweep taking a third-set super tiebreaker decision on court four.

NOTABLES
-Soloveva has won five-consecutive singles matches.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles host two Big South matches at home at Rock Hill Tennis Center next week, taking on Asheville on Wed., Mar. 6 and Radford on Thurs., Mar. 7. Both matches are set to begin at 2 p.m. and admission is free.
