WINTHROP AT A GLANCE
Winthrop hosted Liberty Friday afternoon and a positive start to the contest for the Eagles turned into more offensive woes late in the game. Winthrop took a 5-4 lead early in the second half but wasn't able to score another goal as the Flames took home the 10-5 victory.
Alaina Girani made a season-high 17 saves in the loss.
SCOUTING ELON
Elon enters Wednesday's matchup with a 1-1 record having beaten Campbell, and fallen to 14
th-ranked Virginia. Elon has a lot of new faces after graduating 11 seniors last season. The Phoenix have averaged 9.5 goals per game through two games and have been led by sophomore Mae McGlynn with eight goals. Paulina DiFatta has played all 120 minutes in goal, giving up eight goals per game while making 61 percent of her saves.
ALL-TIME AGAINST ELON
Wednesday will be the third all-time meeting between the Eagles and Phoenix. The series is tied 1-1. Winthrop picked up a neutral-site victory last season 14-9 after Elon downed the Eagles 13-5 in 2017.
WHAT'S UP NEXT
Winthrop remains on the road for its next contest as the Eagles head to Old Dominion for a 1 p.m. opening draw against the Monarchs.
