WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (4-3) fell 6-1 on the road at ACC foe Wake Forest (6-1) Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-Wake Forest took the doubles point, starting with a victory at court one, the first defeat of the season for No. 20 Megan Kauffman and Lauren Proctor. Tayla Van Eck and Ellie Burns evened the slate with a 6-3 win at court three, but the Deacons took the point with close 7-5 win at No. 2.
 
-Wake jumped out to a 3-0 lead with straight-set wins at the Nos. 3 and 6 positions, and clinched the win 4-0 as No. 122 Chandler Carter defeated Tayla Van Eck 6-2, 6-4 at court five.  
 
-The Deacons added two more straight-set wins at No. 1 and 4.
 
-Alisa Soloveva earned the Eagles' point with a third-set tiebreaker victory over No. 95 Anna Ulyashchenko. After falling 6-2 in the first, Soloveva came back for a 7-6 second-set tiebreak win, then took the third-set super tiebreak decision 10-8.  

NOTABLES
-Soloveva's win was her first over a nationally ranked opponent this season. She posted a 2-1 record against ranked opponents in 2018.
 
-Soloveva has won four-consecutive singles matches.
 
-The loss was the first of the season for Kauffman and Proctor, ending their regular-season winning streak at 27 matches dating back to Jan. 27, 2018.
