Women's Basketball Falls to No. 14 Kentucky, 91-36

LEXINGTON, KY – The Kentucky Wildcats showed why they're ranked 14th in the country with a 91-36 win over the Winthrop women's basketball team on Wednesday night at Memorial Coliseum.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles and Wildcats exchanged baskets for the first four minutes of the contest but as the first timeout approached, Kentucky started running away with the lead. Kentucky led 32-12 after the first 10 minutes of play and 54-18 at the half. At halftime, Kem Nwabudu, Jah'Che Whitfield and Anika Riley led the team with four points each. Winthrop opened the second half with a 6-2 run but were ultimately outscored 16-12. In the final 10 minutes of play, the Eagles were held to just six points, falling to the Wildcats 91-36.

  • Winthrop won the battle of the boards, 37-33.
  • The Eagles had 12 bench points led by Destinee Jamison-Whitfield with eight; Kentucky had 50 bench points led by Blair Green who contributed 13.
  • Winthrop shot 17 percent from behind the arc and 46 percent from the line.
  • The Eagles committed 35 turnovers in the game resulting in 46 points for Kentucky.  

UP NEXT
The Eagles will look to turn things around as they travel to Wilmington, N.C. to take on the UNCW Seahawks on Tuesday, Dec. 17. This will be the fourth meeting between the two schools and Winthrop has a 2-1 series lead. Tip off is set for 11:30 a.m.
