BOILING SPRINGS, NC— Winthrop closed out the regular season with a 1-1 draw at Gardner-Webb, Wednesday evening. The Eagles finish fourth in the standings and will host a quarterfinals match of the Big South Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. on Eagle Field.

Game Recap
- Gardner-Webb had a good chance inside the box in the 3rd minute as Laurits Lillemose collected a ball and tried to curl a shot about 12 yards out through traffic but Chandler Gaunce saw it the entire way and made a routine diving save
- Winthrop had its first good scoring opportunity of the match as it earned the game's first corner in the 23rd minute
- Walshaw's delivery to the near post was redirected on goal by Jonathan Foster's head and as it was headed toward goal a Gardner-Webb defender was there to block the shot off the line and his clear went off the crossbar and away from goal
- Gaunce came up big again just before halftime as Kharrel Medza found himself alone in the box with the ball and headed straight for goal but his shot was turned away by Gaunce
- Walshaw opened the scoring in the 57th minute when he curled in a corner kick untouched to the back post for his fourth goal in two games
- Winthrop nearly put the game away in the 86th minute as Walshaw broke free in the box and his shot was just deflected wide off the leg of goalkeeper Daniel Husa
- Gardner-Webb defended the corner and went the length of the field as Medza found the back of the net to tie the game
- Oskar Wang hit the crossbar on a free kick in the 98th minute for the best chance to score by either team in the first overtime
- In the 103rd minute a cross into the box found the head of Foster as he directed it on goal from about eight yards out but right at the goalie
Notables
- The Eagles finished 3-2-2 in the league and fourth in the standings as it is the highest seeding since 2015
- With the tie at Gardner-Webb the Eagles extended their unbeaten streak to six games, the longest such streak by a Winthrop team since a seven-game unbeaten streak in 2015
- This was the 5th overtime game of the season and the fourth overtime in the last five games for Winthrop
- The five overtimes are the most in a single-season by the Eagles since the 2015 team played in five overtime games
- The three ties are the most by an Eagle team since the 2009 team had four
- Walshaw now has four goals in his last two games and five total on the season
- Over the last four games Walshaw has four goals and three assists
- Gaunce finished the game with a career-high 10 saves
