Spartanburg, S.C. – Miquela Santoro's game-winning 3-pointer was no good as time expired and Winthrop women's basketball fell to Wofford 60-59 at Converse College on Saturday night.
The Eagles trailed 38-27 after 20 minutes of play. Santoro led the squad with nine points at the half. Winthrop opened the second half with a 8-0 run, cutting Wofford's 11-point lead to just three. The Eagles outscored the Terriers 18 to 10 in the third quarter and made it a one-possession game with 10 minutes to play. The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle. With 1:52 remaining,
Jah'Che Whitfield made a layup to bring the Eagles within one point. Wofford's Da'Ja Green made both of her free throws with 17 seconds remaining. Two seconds later, Santoro responded with a 3-pointer to once again make it a 1-point game. Santoro's game-winning 3-pointer was no good. The Eagles shot 44 percent from the field, 50 percent from three with 22 points off the bench.
