Women's Basketball Falls 68-44 At Old Dominion Wednesday Afternoon

NORFOLK, VA – Winthrop women's basketball fell to Old Dominion 44-68 on the road Wednesday afternoon.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth contest that saw six lead changes. The Monarchs went on a 7-0 run to lead by six after 10 minutes of play. The Monarchs pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 20-12. Four of those 12 points came with under a minute to go in the half. In a low-scoring third quarter for the Eagles, newcomers Sydney Hunter and Imani Elliot scored their first career baskets, accounting for half Winthrop's third quarter points. In the remaining 10 minutes of the game, Myra Strickland and Tori Hall also recorded their first collegiate career points. The Eagles were outscored in every quarter, shooting just 31% from the field.

  • Marissa Cantrell led the Eagles with nine points. She also contributed two rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Strickland and Elliot finished with 2 points each, Hunter finished with 4 points, 4 rebounds, a block and a steal and Hall finished with 5 points, nailing a 3-pointer with 29 seconds remaining in the contest.
