Volleyball Reaches Double-Digit Conference Wins For Second Consecutive Season

Hampton, V.A – Winthrop volleyball moves their conference mark to double-digit wins for the second consecutive season with a four-set win over Hampton (17-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-15). The Eagles are now 18-4, 10-0, with four matches left in the regular season. 
 
How It Happened
The Eagles struggled to smooth out their offense early in the match, trailing Hampton for a majority of the set. Winthrop finished with just a .073 attacking efficiency, compared to the .289 of the Pirates. 
 
In the second set, the Eagles once again found themselves down, but Yamaguchi tied the set with a kill, 23-23, pushing Hampton to call a timeout. Morgan Bossler put away the kill that brought the Eagles to their first set point but a blocking error tied the set again. Eagles pushed for straight point to tie up the match, 1-1. 
 
The Eagles found themselves in a 4-1 deficit early in the third set, but reclaimed the set lead. The Eagles continued to extend the lead by as much as seven points. With a kill from Makayla Doyle, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the match. 
 
The Eagles brought the momentum from the third set and rolled through the final set. As a team, Winthrop finished with six aces in the final set and hit a .269 as a team. 
 
Inside the Box Score
Jace Kleffner finished with a team-high 12 kills for the Eagles and Morgan Bossler joined her in double-digit kills, with 10. Bossler also added four blocks, three digs, and an ace. Savannah Roper led with a team-high 12 digs, and Siani Yamaguchi finished with 40 assists and ten digs.
