Eagles Top Presbyterian For Third Straight Win

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop extended its winning streak to three games and its winning streak to four on Wednesday afternoon, as the Eagles topped Presbyterian 2-0 at Eagle Field thanks to goals from Natalie Royaards and Gabi Hull. The home win improved the Eagles to 5-5-1 overall on the season and 3-2-1 in Big South play as the Eagles have hit their stride, playing their best soccer of the season.

The Eagles got to work quickly on offense, as in just the sixth minute of the match Natalie Royaards netted her fourth goal of the season, going on an unassisted run to the left side of the box and deposited the shot into the lower right corner to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. The Eagles continued to apply the pressure, outshooting Presbyterian 8-1 in the first half.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead to the locker room and doubled their lead in the 50th minute with a beautiful connection. Dribbling up the middle of the field, Alexandra Perez delivered a great through-ball to Gabi Hull, who punched her fifth goal of the season into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0 in favor of Winthrop. The Eagles would keep PC off the ball for the remaining majority of the contest to secure their third straight win, handing the Blue Hose their second conference loss (3-2 Big South).

UP NEXT: The Eagles will travel to Hampton this Saturday for a 12 p.m. kickoff at Armstrong Stadium. Saturday's match will be streamed on ESPN+ as the Eagles will look for their fourth straight victory.
