ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop grabbed an early lead but Campbell netted three second half goals in a 3-1 loss, Wednesday evening in Big South Conference men's soccer action.

Game Recap
- Eagles withstood some early pressure by the Camels and took the lead in the 15th minute
- Winthrop earned a free kick outside the box, wide to the left of the goalkeeper as Jordan Walshaw served a ball straight in front and Andreas Jackson leaped up and headed it home to the top left corner
- Eagles had a good chance in the 38th minute as Jonathan Foster won the ball and dribbled straight to goal as he slipped a pass to Leif Estevez in the box as he dribbled toward goal from a slight angle
- Estevez tried to slot a shot over the keeper as he slid in but just lifted the shot too far as it went over the bar
- Campbell looked to equalize before the half as a ball was sent into the box in the final minute and Jalen James headed the cross at the back post as his floating header went off the top of the crossbar and remained in play but the Eagles cleared
- The pressure from the Camels final paid off in the 65th minute as Thibaut Jacquel brought Campbell level
- Jalen James played a ball down the line, Dylan Sadler served the ball in front of goal and Jacquel battled in the air to with the header and bury it in the top left corner
- Alex Egeonu put the Camels in front in the 78th as he took advantage of a deflection off a clear
- The Eagles tried to clear the ball inside the box, the ball deflected off an Eagle backward and into space as Egeonu turned and fired a left-footed shot into the top left corner off the bottom of the crossbar
- Sadler added insurance in the 81st minute as he headed home a corner by Adrian Morales
- Campbell finished the game with a 23-4 advantage in shots and 10-0 in corners
Notables
- Same Jones made some big saves and finished with six in the game in his 5th career start
- This was the 27th meeting all-time as the Eagles have now won four of the last seven meetings
- The Eagles early goal ended Campbell's streak of over 220 minutes without allowing a goal
Looking Ahead
Winthrop is off until Tuesday, Oct. 15 when it travels to Farmville, VA to take on Longwood at 7 p.m.
