ROCK HILL, SC - Winthrop won its second straight Big South contest and now has a three match unbeaten streak following Saturday's contest, in which the Eagles topped Longwood 1-0 at Eagle Field behind Keely Leising's free kick goal in the 55th minute. With the win, Winthrop is now 4-5-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in Big South play.
The Eagles and Lancers played 45 minutes of physical, evenly matched soccer in the first half where the battle for possession was the story of the period, where there were only four total shots and one shot on goal.
Winthrop finally broke the scoreless tie in the 55th minute.
Keeley Leising lined up for a free kick just inside the far sideline from well beyond the 18 yard box and dropped a perfect strike over the wall and into the bottom right corner of the net for her first goal of the season. The unassisted strike proved to be the difference in the game, as Longwood would test Eagle keeper
Ashlynn Harris late but she held strong to secure the win at Eagle field.
