Charleston, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball claimed their ninth consecutive Big South win with a three-set sweep over Charleston Southern (27-25, 25-22, 25-19). This has been the best conference season for the Eagles since the 2006 squad finished 14-0. They are now through five weeks of conference and have just three to go before hosting the Big South Conference tournament.
How It Happened
The Eagles came close to dropping the first set, trailing 22-24, but came back to tie 25-25.
Morgan Bossler finished the set with a kill and a service ace.
The second set was notched 12-12, when the Eagles slowly began extending their lead. Charleston Southern could not control their errors and the Eagle's offense continued to put the ball away.
Makayla Doyle closed out the set with back to back kills to put the Eagles up 2-0 on the match.
Winthrop's offense continued to gel in the third set, finishing with their best hitting efficiency of the match at .242. Charleston Southern continued to struggle against a big Eagle block, finishing with just a .100 hitting efficiency.
Inside the Box Score
Makayla Doyle finished with a team-high, 11 kills and also added four blocks.
Morgan Bossler added nine kills with no errors (.500) and finished with seven blocks.
Siani Yamaguchi managed 33 assists, 10 digs, and four kills with no errors.
