Volleyball Topples Presbyterian In Three Sets To Stay Unbeaten

Clinton, S.C- The home team did not make it easy on the Big South leaders, but the Eagles got the sweep over Presbyterian to remain unbeaten in conference (26-24, 25-19, 26-24). This win keeps the Eagles on top of the Big South at 8-0 and moves them to 14-4 overall; the loss drops PC to 5-3, 11-11.

How It Happened
The Eagles took a 5-1 lead in the first set behind strong defense at the net, including three stuff blocks. PC worked to close the gap, pulling within one, but the Eagles went on a scoring run to keep the Blue Hose at bay, 16-11. The Eagles were ready to take an easy first set victory but the home team did not go down without a fight. The Blue Hose put together their own six-point scoring run to tie the set, 24-24. A kill from Makayla Doyle and a PC attack error secured the first set win for the Eagles.

The second set was more even keeled than the first, with 13 ties and five lead changes. The final tie was 18-18, when the Eagles rattled off six unanswered points to earn set point once again. A kill from Sydney Gunter ended the set and gave the Eagles a 2-0 match lead.

The Blue Hose came out aggressively on the Eagles in an attempt to avoid a sweep, taking a 4-2 lead. Scrappy defense and strong offense helped the Eagles to a 7-1 run to take back the lead, 11-6. Inconsistencies and untimely errors from the Eagles, allowed PC back into the set. The final set went down to the wire, but big offensive plays from several Eagle attackers proved to be the difference.
