HIGH POINT, NC - Winthrop women's soccer had its four game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, as the High Point Panthers topped the Eagles 3-0 at Vert Stadium. The loss drops Winthrop to 6-6-1 overall on the season and 4-3-1 in Big South Play. Winthrop outshot High Point 10-9 for the match, including five shots on goal to four, but the Eagles were unable to convert on offensive chances and the match went the way of the Panthers.
In the 16th minute, High Point's Emma Schossler broke the scoreless tie by scoring on a low centered shot with the assist being credited to the Panthers' Sam Gerhart. Later, at the turn of the 39th minute, High Point's Lauren Mazich scored in the lower right corner to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Assists were credited to Ashlyn Kearney and Keagan Bragg on the play as High Point would take the 2-0 lead to the halftime locker room.
In the 81st minute, High Point put the contest out of reach with their third goal, this time coming from Charla Ward on a shot into the lower right corner, assisted by Sydney Colby.
