Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls 70-49 At Radford Saturday

ROCK HILL, SC -- A strong start Saturday afternoon wasn't enough to propel the Winthrop women's basketball team to victory as the Eagles fell 70-49 on the road to the Radford Highlanders.

Winthrop falls to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference with the loss while Radford improved to 3-1 in the Big South and 9-6 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Winthrop had an incredible start to the contest, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first 5:41 of the contest.  Radford was able to slowly cut into the Winthrop advantage over the last four minutes of the first quarter and the Eagles held a 14-9 lead after the opening 10 minutes.

The Highlanders quickly jumped on the Eagles in the second quarter and took their first lead of the game less than three minutes into the period.  The two sides traded buckets before Radford gained a 22-19 lead.  Winthrop got back within one before a Radford three-pointer gave the Highlanders a 25-21 lead at the break.

Radford opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run, opening a 34-21 lead.  Winthrop fought to get back within six but the Highlanders were able to regain a 49-36 lead heading into the final quarter.

Winthrop was unable to put a run together in the fourth quarter as the Highlanders put the game put of reach.  Radford went on for the 70-49 victory.
