Game Recap
- The game was pretty level over the first 45 minutes, but Davidson created more scoring chances with six shots
- The Wildcats were on the board first in the 36th minute when a cross the back post just go over the head of Yves Luscher as Jaylen Thompson tried to control the ball but it got away as Luscher tried to move between Thompson and the ball
- Thompson battled Luscher for the ball and slipped by him as he then struck a shot into the lower left corner just inside the six-yard box at a tight angle to the left of goalkeeper Jack Pondy
- Winthrop opened the second half applying a lot of pressure and created several scoring opportunities until finally breaking through in the 61st minute
- Marc Carerras hustled after a ball in the box and was fouled by a Davidson defender as Jordan Walshaw stepped up and converted the penalty kick to tie the match
- Leif Estevez nearly gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead in the 82nd minute when he let a shot fly just inside the 18-yard box as he tried to beat the goalkeeper to the lower left corner by Sawyer Gaffney just tipped it wide for a corner
- About a minute and a half later Evan Stout was in on goal 1v1 as Gaffney was able to close the angle and stop Stout's shot as he tried to slip it by
- Overtime didn't last long as Davidson was awarded its own penalty kick in the 92nd minute as Jamie DiLuzio stepped up and converted for his first goal of the year

- Jack Pondy finished the game with one save while Davidson's Sawyer Gaffney had three
- The Eagles had no shots in the first half but finished the game with eight (Davidson had 10-8 edge)
- Winthrop had seven corners in the game (7-5 edge) with six coming in the second half alone

Winthrop is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. when it hosts USC Upstate in its Big South Conference opener. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 15, but postponed due to Hurricane Florence.
