Game Recap
- Both teams had multiple chances going forward in the half
- Mercer let a couple of shots fly in the first 10 minutes but Jack Pondy positioned himself well to make routine saves
- The Eagles did have three good looks in front of goal from about 6-8 yards that were missed opportunities
- In the 10th minute Davis Bryan had a clean header off a corner kick that hit the crossbar and went out for a goal kick
- In the 35th minute on an counter Joey Soeder made a run down the middle and received a cross as he couldn't quite catch up to the service and headed it wide
- Charlie Ramirez had an open header at the near post off a corner just outside the six that went just high and wide of the top left corner
- Mercer's Emmet Johnson opened the game's scoring in the 71st minute as he battled for the ball and after a couple of deflections found it sitting right in front of him just round the top of the 18 and he fired a shot into the top right corner
- Leo Toledo Jr. made it 2-0 in favor of the Bears in the 76th minute when he scored on a counter
- Toledo Jr. dribbled several yards as he made his way into the box and as he closed in on the goalkeeper and Winthrop defenders he buried a shot into the lower left corner
Notables
- The Eagles had seven corners in the game and created three good scoring chances off headers
- Jack Pondy made his first start as an Eagle as he finished the game with five saves in goal for the Eagles
- Jordan Walshaw led the Eagles in shots with two (both on goal) and now has five shots on the year (all on goal)
