Gabi Hull netted two goals and
Keeley Leising converted a second-half penalty kick to propel the Winthrop women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory Monday on the road over East Tennessee State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the third straight game, Winthrop (2-0-1) scored the first goal of the contest. Hull slotted a shot past the Buccaneer keeper in the 15
th minute on a feed from
Allie Thomas. Just over 10 minutes later, ETSU (0-4) tied the game at one.
With just over 12 minutes remaining before the half, Hull grabbed her second goal of the contest. This time, Hull scored the goal unassisted in the 33
rd minute. Winthrop took the lead into the break.
Only 90 seconds into the second half, Leising put the Eagles up by two by converting a penalty kick. East Tennessee tried to gain some momentum in the final 30 minutes, pulling within one in the 63
rd minute but that was the last strong scoring chance for the Buccaneers as the Eagles took the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Hull took only two shots in the contest, converting both chances. Leising led the team with three shots in 42 minutes on the field.
Kelly Horan recorded six saves over 90 minutes for the Eagles. The Buccaneers outshot the Eagles 17-8 and held an 8-3 advantage on corner kick opportunities.

The Eagles will remain on the road for their next two contests. Winthrop travels to face North Florida on Friday followed by Jacksonville on Sunday.
