ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season Friday evening, downing the South Carolina State Bulldogs 2-1 at Eagle Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Winthrop (1-0-1) got on the board early, scoring in the seventh minute.
Gabi Hull scored her first goal of the season on an assist from
Keeley Leising. South Carolina State (0-3) tied the game only minutes before halftime. Kately Lauziere took a feed from Tamika Aguilar to square the match in the 41
st minute.
The Eagles pounded the Bulldogs in the second half and were finally able to pull ahead in the 64
th minute. Senior
JoJo Taylor picked up a goal on an assist from
Allie Thomas, which proved to be the game-winner.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Winthrop outshot the Bulldogs 20-12 including a 16-3 advantage in the second half.
Megan Loveland led the Eagles with four shots while Hull and Taylor each recorded three.
Kelly Horan played all 90 minutes in net, recording two saves.

The Eagles hit the road for a three-game stretch starting Monday night as they head to Johnson City, TN to take on East Tennessee State.
