Natalie Royaards netted her first goal of the season and
Kelly Horan recorded nine saves Sunday afternoon as the Winthrop women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Winthrop (0-0-1) got on the board in the 17
th minute as
Gabi Hull flicked a ball into the penalty area that Royaards collected off a defensive mistake and poked it into the back of the net. Both sides had scoring opportunities over the remainder of the half but neither could grab a goal.
Coastal (1-0-1) found the tying goal in the 57
th minute as Mackenzie Gibbs took a ball from Baylee Price and found the top left corner to pull even with the Eagles. The Chanticleers continued to apply pressure over the last 30 minutes but Horan made some quality saves to keep the game level.
Early in the first overtime, Hull had an attempt on goal that forced a save. Horan kept the game going, coming up with a save only minutes later. In the final 10 minutes, Horan recorded three saves to earn the draw.

The nine saves for Horan is a career-high for the senior captain. Royaards,
Keeley Leising,
Morrison Trnavsky and
Lexi Sheely each finished with two shots. Coastal outshot the Eagles 17-11, putting 10 on target to Winthrop's five.
