EAGLES AT A GLANCE
Winthrop put forth a strong all-around performance Saturday afternoon, downing the Longwood Lancers 22-6 in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament.
Nicole Beatson led the Eagles with eight points on seven goals and one assist.
Kristen Shriver also notched eight points on six assists to go along with two goals. Freshman
McKenna Blick had her best performance of the season with four goals.
Multiple Eagles continue to be ranked highly in statistical categories in both the Big South and the NCAA. Big South Offensive Player of the Year,
Nicole Beatson, leads the Big South and the NCAA in goals (82) and goals per game (4.56). Shriver is fifth in the NCAA in total assists (50) and assists per game (2.78).
Katherine Judge leads the Big South in draw controls per game (7.11) and ranks 10th in the NCAA.
RECORD-BREAKING SCORING
Nicole Beatson broke the Big South single-season records in both goals and points Saturday against Longwood. Beatson's first goal of the game broke the points record and she now sits at 101 on the year. Her fourth tally broke the goal record that now stands at 82.
SCOUTING LIBERTY
Liberty earned the second seed in the Big South Tournament after finishing the regular season with a 6-1 conference mark. The Flames will have had nearly two weeks off before playing Friday night. Liberty went 13-4 overall on the season.
Brianna McCaffrey leads the Flames with 40 goals this season and is followed closely by Michaela Rich who has 34. Kayla Foster leads the team in points with 62 on 25 goals and 37 assists. The Flames have been splitting time in goal between Katherine Widrick and Aubrie Tarris. Widrick has a 6-1 record, allowing 7.5 goals per game while Tarris has a 7-3 mark, allowing 12 goals per game.
ALL-TIME AGAINST LIBERTY
The Eagles will be looking to avenge a regular-season loss to the Flames Friday evening. The win by Liberty earlier this season snapped a five-game winning streak the Eagles owned over the Flames. Winthrop is 5-2 all-time against the Flames. The two teams have met only once in the postseason. The Eagles bested the Flames 13-8 in 2015 to win the program's first Big South title.
WHAT'S UP NEXT
The winner of Friday's semifinal contest will move onto the Big South Championship to face either High Point or Campbell. The final will be held Sunday at 12 p.m. at High Point's Vert Stadium.
