GREENVILLE, SC— Winthrop softball fell 1-0 and 8-3 in doubleheader action at Furman, Tuesday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Furman led 1-0 after the first inning thanks to a couple of miscues by the Eagles
- Caroline Cash singled to left with one out and advanced to second when Madyson Watson overran the ball in left
- Cash moved over to third on a wild pitch and Logan's Webb throw to third to try and get Cash advancing sailed into left field allowing Cash to score
- Furman pushed five across in the bottom of the fifth inning to push the lead to 6-0
- The Paladins had back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners
- A squeeze bunt by Emma Ogburn scored Hannah Reynolds from third as she just beat the throw home and slid under the tag
- Two batters later with the bases loaded Furman had three consecutive batters reach base to push the lead to 5-0 as the sixth run came across on a wild pitch
- Kiley Majette took the loss in the circle as she fell to 7-9 after allowing five earned runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts
- Furman's Lindsey Bert improved to 16-7 after allowing just one hit with one walk and striking out 12
Game 2
- A heads up defensive play helped the Eagles keep Furman off the board in the first
- Cash hit a liner to shallow center as Morgan Lowers ran on and made a diving attempt but just couldn't hang on, but Blake Wallert fielded the ball and threw to second to get the runner trying for a double
- The next batter tripled two right, which would have scored the runner and Sabrina Shroades got a pop out to end the threat
- Furman took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Bert hit a two-run homerun and Pereira had an RBI double as she also scored on an error on the play for the 4-0 lead
- The Eagles struck back with three runs in the top of the third
- A.G. Gardner led off the third with a single followed by a double by Ashley Westbrooks to put runners and second and third
- Lowers then took a 1-0 pitch to left center for a double, scoring both runners
- Blake Wallert also doubled to score Lowers to make it a one-run game
- Furman got one back in the fourth as two errors put a runner at third and Ogburn hit a sacrifice fly for a 5-3 lead
- The Paladins doubled the lead at 6-3 when Duggar scored on a wild pitch
- Bert made it 8-3 in the fifth for Furman as she hit her second two-run homerun of the game
EXTRA BASES
- The Eagles have lost six in a row and four straight on the road
- Westbrooks drove in a run in game two as she now has an RBI in four of the last seven and a total of seven
- Westbrooks has also now scored in six of the last seven games

Winthrop turns its focus back to league play as it will travel to Clinton, SC for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 7 at 1 p.m.
