ROCK HILL, S.C. – Road woes continued for Winthrop baseball (17-21, 9-6 Big South Conference) as the Eagles fell 12-2 on the road at Davidson (23-13, 8-4 Atlantic 10 Conference) on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Davidson was on the board first with a four-spot in the bottom of the 3
rd.
-The Eagles put together two runs, one each in the 4
th and 5
th.
Tyler Halstead hit a single RBI in the 4
th to score
Cale Gibson, then
Mitch Spires hit a solo homer in the 5
th.
-The Wildcats poured on another four runs in the 6
th sparked by a leadoff home run from Cam Johnson, taking a 9-2 lead to the 7
th.
- The Eagles would only get one baserunner on in the final four innings, a Spires single in the 8
th.
-Davidson would get one across in the 7
th on a wild pitch, then a two-run Justin Lebek homer in the 8
th would put the Wildcats up 12-2, the final.

-The Eagles recorded eight hits, falling to 5-17 when failing to record double-digit hits.
-Leading-hitter
Mitch Spires was 2-for-3 including his home run.
-The typically stingy Winthrop pitching staff each gave up at least one run on a staff night where five hurlers saw the mound.
-Winthrop's road record fell to 4-15 on the season, while the Eagles are 13-6 at home at The Winthrop Ballpark.
