ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (16-4, 8-0 Big South Conference) closed its final regular season home match with a 7-0 sweep against Marshall (3-19, 0-4 C-USA) Saturday morning at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
-Winthrop won the doubles point for the 18
th time out of their 20 matches this season, but the Herd challenged the typically dominant Eagles.

Ellie Burns led off with a 6-3 at No. 3, but Marshall answered by toppling

Lauren Proctor and
Megan Kauffman found themselves in a tightly contested battle with Marshall's Stephanie Smith and Maddie Silver, never pulling away by more than a game.
-Tied at 5-5, Kauffman held serve for a 6-5 lead. Match point would be a deuce point to Proctor for the break and 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point.

Aida Kelic led off singles play with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory on her Senior Day, her 12
th singles victory of the season, a new career-high.

Lauren Proctor would not be challenged in her singles match with Smith, finishing second with a 6-3, 6-1 win.

Ellie Burns would clinch the match for the Eagles with the fourth team point on court six with a 6-4, 6-1 straight-set win.

Megan Kauffman came back from down 1-4 in her second set to earn a straight-set 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Tayla Van Eck and
Alisa Soloveva completed the sweep, as each battled for tiebreak wins in the first set, and went on to dominate with 6-1 wins in the second set.

Alisa Soloveva (17-2) each boast double-digit singles victories at the top of the league, with Soloveva's winning percentage (.895) leading the Big South Conference. Proctor is undefeated in conference play (7-0) and has won all but one of her league matches in straight-sets, while Soloveva has also won each of her conference matches without dropping a set (8-0).
