ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (16-4, 8-0 Big South Conference) closed its final regular season home match with a 7-0 sweep against Marshall (3-19, 0-4 C-USA) Saturday morning at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-Winthrop won the doubles point for the 18^th time out of their 20 matches this season, but the Herd challenged the typically dominant Eagles. Aida Kelic and Ellie Burns led off with a 6-3 at No. 3, but Marshall answered by toppling Alisa Soloveva/Tayla Van Eck on court two. The point would come down to the No. 1 position, where the undefeated No. 60 duo of Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman found themselves in a tightly contested battle with Marshall's Stephanie Smith and Maddie Silver, never pulling away by more than a game.

-Tied at 5-5, Kauffman held serve for a 6-5 lead. Match point would be a deuce point to Proctor for the break and 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point.

-Aida Kelic led off singles play with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory on her Senior Day, her 12^th singles victory of the season, a new career-high.

-Although pushed in doubles play, No. 31 Lauren Proctor would not be challenged in her singles match with Smith, finishing second with a 6-3, 6-1 win.

-Ellie Burns would clinch the match for the Eagles with the fourth team point on court six with a 6-4, 6-1 straight-set win.

-Megan Kauffman came back from down 1-4 in her second set to earn a straight-set 6-1, 6-4 victory.

-Tayla Van Eck and Alisa Soloveva completed the sweep, as each battled for tiebreak wins in the first set, and went on to dominate with 6-1 wins in the second set.

NOTABLES
-The Eagles won all six singles courts without dropping a set.

- No. 27 Lauren Proctor (16-2) and Alisa Soloveva (17-2) each boast double-digit singles victories at the top of the league, with Soloveva's winning percentage (.895) leading the Big South Conference. Proctor is undefeated in conference play (7-0) and has won all but one of her league matches in straight-sets, while Soloveva has also won each of her conference matches without dropping a set (8-0).

-With 17 singles wins, Soloveva has matched her 2017 freshman win total (17-6 overall record.)

-No. 60 Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman remained undefeated and improved to a league-best 18-0 on the season with their victory on court one.

-Aida Kelic's singles victory marked her 12^th of the season, a new career-high for the senior improving her record to 12-8 overall, surpassing her 11-11 record in 2017.

-Ellie Burns has won five of her last six matches, all in straight-sets.

-Megan Kauffman has won three-consecutive matches.

UP NEXT
Winthrop has another nonconference match on Sunday, taking on NC State at 4 p.m. to close out the regular season.

Winthrop will enjoy the No. 1 seed in the upcoming week's Big South Conference Tournament, with its sights set on earning the program's 20^th conference tournament championship.  The full official bracket will be released by the Big South Conference at the conclusion of the regular season.
