Baseball Back On The Road At ETSU For Weather-Altered Weekend Series

Eagles will play Friday doubleheader, Saturday finale.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Winthrop baseball (5-8) is back on the road this weekend for a three-game series at East Tennessee State University. Due to inclement weather in the forecast, the schedule for the series has been altered.
 
The squads will now play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1 p.m., with game two scheduled to begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The series finale is now set for Saturday with the first pitch time still to be determined.

SERIES HISTORY AND AN EYE ON THE BUCS
The Eagles and Bucs have met 11 times in program history, with Winthrop holding a 9-2 lead all-time. Last weekend ETSU notched wins over Tennessee and Memphis and in the squad's last outing Wednesday, the Bucs scored a season-high 12 runs in a win over Eastern Kentucky
 
TEAM SNAPSHOT
Winthrop is hitting .243 (104-for-428) as a team with a .315 on base percentage. The Eagles have recorded 16 errors as a squad, retaining a .966 fielding percentage overall.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles took advantage of an explosive first inning to take down The Citadel, 8-1, Wednesday evening including a three-RBI night from Hunter Lipscomb. Last weekend, Winthrop took game one from Kent State 8-2, but the Golden Flashes battled back to take the series 2-1.

PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS
-Junior outfielder Hunter Lipscomb leads the Eagles with 13 hits and is tied with senior first baseman Tyler Halstead with a team-high nine RBI. Lipscomb also leads the Eagles in on-base-percentage (.386), runs scored (10) and multiple-hit games (5).

-Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year Nate Pawelczyk was lights out in his first two appearances of the season, allowing just one hit and one run against Ole Miss and two hits and one run against Maryland Eastern Shore.

-Sophomore Zach Peek earned Big South Player of the Week honors after recording a new career-high 12 strikeouts against Kent State, his second-straight outing with double-digit strikeouts. His 28 K's on the season is the highest on the team.
