HIGH POINT, N.C. – Winthrop baseball (13-16, 7-2 Big South Conference) rebounded from its offensive struggles of the first two games of the series and put up 11 hits in an 11-2 game three victory at High Point (14-13, 6-3 Big South) Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-For the third-straight game in the series, High Point was on the board first, courtesy of an RBI double in the bottom of the 1
st to go up 1-0.
-Winthrop answered in the top of the second as
Alex Raines singled to bring home
Grant English.
-The offensive momentum continued in the 3
rd with a two-RBI single by freshman
Dillon Morton to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead.
-Winthrop would break the game open in the 4th with six runs on four hits and two Panther errors.
Jake Sullivan knocked an RBI double down the left field line, followed in short order by
Mitch Spires' first home run of the season, a three-run bomb to left center good for an 8-2 lead.
-Still in the 4
th,
Dillon Morton reached on an error that would score English and an RBI single for
Alex Raines would give the Eagles breathing room at 10-2.

Jake Sullivan would tack on one more in the 7
th with his second RBI double of the day to score
Scout McFalls for an 11-2 lead.
NOTABLES
-In his first weekend start of the season and longest outing of his career at 7.0 innings, senior LHP
Riley Arnone recorded five strikeouts and allowed eight hits, but just two runs on the day.
-In 2.0 innings of relief, senior RHP
Daniel Willcutt allowed no hits, no runs and put no one on base as the Panthers went three up, three down in both the 8
th and 9
th.

Mitch Spires recorded a season-high four RBI on the day, including his first home run of the season.

Alex Raines posted a season-high three hits, going 3-for-5 on the day with two RBI, tying a season-high.
-The win was the first on the road for Winthrop this season, putting the squad's road record at 1-12, despite the team's now 13 wins overall. Â
