COACHES QUOTE
Head Coach Mark Cooke~
"We started of the game a little slow, making some uncharacteristic mistakes. We hit their starting pitcher hard in the third inning and played good defense the rest of the way. This was another example that we're very scrappy team and play hard."

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Campbell struck first in the bottom of the first as Madison Herring led off the inning with a single to right on the first pitch
  • Herring stole second despite a good throw from Logan Webb and moved to third on a ground out
  • Caroline Smith laid down a good squeeze bunt and Kiley Majette fielded the ball nicely and tossed it home but Herring was quick to home and scored for the early 1-0 lead
  • In the top bottom of the second, Lizabeth McCurry led off the inning with a home run on a 1-2 pitch
  • Winthrop exploded for five runs in the third, which turned out to be all it needed behind Majette
  • With one out in the third, Morgan Lowers tripled to right field (the fourth triple of her career)
  • Blake Wallert stepped in and cut the deficit in half with an RBI single to left on the first pitch
  • Ansley Gilreath followed with her fourth home run of the season as her two-run shot put the Eagles in front 3-2
  • Keleigh Romine singled to left and then Majette stepped up and hit a 1-2 pitch to left for a two-run home run and a 5-2 lead
  • Majette earned the win to improve to 7-5 as she allowed two runs on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts
  • Lexy Head took the loss (2-7) after allowing five runs on seven hits with no walks and a strikeout in 2.1 innings
  • The day was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader but the second game was called off due to rain and rescheduled for Sunday
