Baseball Sweeps Series Versus Presbyterian With 7-4 Victory Sunday

Mulkey, Gibson each hit second home runs of the series.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop baseball (8-13, 3-0 Big South) completed the three-game series sweep with a 7-4 victory over Presbyterian (5-16, 0-3 Big South) Sunday afternoon at The Winthrop Ballpark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-PC jumped on top first for the second-straight game with two runs in the first.

-Matthew Mulkey hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the second to tie up the game at 3-3.

-Cale Gibson joined Mulkey, also hitting his second home run of the series, a two-run score in the bottom of the fifth, that put the Eagles on top for good, a then 5-3 lead.

NOTABLES
- Matthew Mulkey leads the Eagles with five home runs on the season, surpassing his 2017 total of three.

-The game marked the fourth-straight contest where the Eagles hit at least one home run.

-The Eagles belted double-digit hits in each game of the series with PC, 13 in game one, 10 in game two and 13 in game three.

-With three hits in today's win, Mitch Spires now has seven multiple-hits games, a team-high. The senior shortstop has recorded three hits in four games this season. Spires also owns a seven-game hitting streak, which is the longest current streak on the squad.
 
UP NEXT
Winthrop hosts Davidson in a nonconference match-up Weds., Mar. 21 at 6 p.m., then welcomes Big South foe Longwood for a three-game series next weekend, Mar. 23-25. First pitch for the series opener Friday is at 6 p.m., Saturday's game two is set for 3 p.m. and the series finale on Sunday is set for 2 p.m.
