ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop baseball (5-13) suffered a close 3-2 defeat to UNCG (12-4) Wednesday afternoon at The Winthrop Ballpark.
UNCG took an early 2-0 lead in the first on a two-RBI single by Cesar Trejo, but the Eagles would battle back with an RBI single from
Mitch Spires in the third and a solo homer by
Cale Gibson in the fourth to tie it up at 2-2.
The Spartans plated one from third in the sixth on a fly-out to center, again by Trejo, to go ahead 3-2.
Winthrop would get two runners on in the ninth for their final chance, but would be unable to get them across.
