KENNESAW, GA – Katie Clark scored a career-high seven goals Saturday and the Winthrop lacrosse team used a big second half to earn a 19-15 come-from-behind victory over Kennesaw State.
With the victory, the Eagles even their season record at 3-3 while the Owls fall to 1-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kennesaw got on the board early, scoring twice in the first 3:13 of the contest. Winthrop responded with three unanswered goals to go up 3-2. Kennesaw State regained the lead and extended their advantage to 7-5 with 7:39 left in the first half. The Eagles closed the half with three straight goals and took an 8-7 lead into the break.
Winthrop stayed hot to start the second half as the Eagles scored 18 seconds into the period and scored six of the first seven goals of the second half to take a 14-8 lead with 17:04 on the clock.
The Eagles were able to increase their lead to as much as 17-10 with 11:02 remaining. The Owls tried to make a late charge, scoring five times in the final nine minutes but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Eagles won 19-15.

Clark's seven goals came on 10 total shots and she also added three ground balls. Nicole Beatson turned in another seven-point performance scoring five more goals and assisting on two others. Katherine Judged and McKenna Blick each added three goals. Judge also led the team with nine draw controls and four ground balls. Alaina Girani picked up the win while tying a career-high 13 saves.
Kennesaw State narrowly outshot the Eagles 31-30. The Eagles won the draw-control battle 22-14, went 4-for-9 on free-positions and were successful on 88 percent of their clears.

Winthrop continues on the road for its next two contests as the Eagles head to the coast. Winthrop will play Coastal Carolina Tuesday before a neutral-site matchup against Elon Friday.
