ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop baseball is set to host its second home series of the season with Kent State coming to Winthrop Ballpark for the Coca-Cola Classic series, Fri.-Sun., Mar. 2-4. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday for the series finale.

The Eagles and Golden Flashes have been frequent non-conference opponents over the years, having met 34 times in program history. Kent State holds a 20-14 series edge. The last meeting was 2015 when Winthrop took a 2-1 series victory to open the season at Winthrop Ballpark.

-Junior outfielder Matthew Mulkey is leading the Eagles with eight RBI and is tied for first on the squad with junior outfielder Hunter Lipscomb and senior shortstop Mitch Spires with nine hits. Mulkey owns a seven-game hitting streak, the longest on the team.

-Spires had a team- and season-high three hits and three runs scored at Clemson

-Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year Nate Pawelczyk has been lights out in his two appearances so far this season, allowing just one hit and one run against Ole Miss and two hits and one run against Maryland Eastern Shore.

-Sophomore Zach Peek notched a new career-high 10 strikeouts in game one against Maryland Eastern Shore.
