SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Winthrop baseball (0-4) fell in its fourth of five-straight road contests Tuesday afternoon as USC Upstate (2-2-1) took a 9-5 victory at Harley Park. The Spartans jumped on top in the first with a Russel Schwertfeger 2 RBI single and a three-run homer by Devon Ortiz. The Eagles would struggle to overcome the early 5-0 deficit, but narrowed the margin to as close as 6-5 in the sixth inning before the Spartans answered. Â

Jason Crumley came in in relief pitching 2.2 innings, allowing one run and notching five strikeouts.

Dillon Morton hit the Eagles' first triple of the season, also bringing home the Eagles' first score of the day.

Scout McFalls had another solid day at the plate, going 2-for-4. The center-fielder has recorded at least one hit in each game so far this season.
