HIGH POINT, NC - Junior Kayla Atkins scored a season high 13 points Tuesday but the Winthrop women's basketball fell 77-40 on the road to the High Point Panthers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
High Point (15-9, 9-4) dominated the first three quarters, limiting the Eagles to only five points in the first quarter and eight points in both the second and third quarters. The Panthers led 53-21 heading into the fourth quarter.
Winthrop (2-22, 1-12) found the shooting touch in the final 10 minutes, scoring 19 points. The Eagles shot 6-for-10 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Atkins scored her 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and three free throws. She also led the team with eight rebounds. Anoka Riley added six points and seven boards.
Turnovers plagued the Eagles as High Point turned 28 Winthrop miscues into 34 points. Winthrop finished the evening shooting 29 percent from the floor and connected on only one three pointer of 11 attempts.
WHAT'S UP NEXT
The Eagles will return to the Winthrop Coliseum for its next two contests starting with a 2 p.m. matchup Saturday with the Radford Highlanders.
