ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's basketball team fell 70-30 Saturday afternoon at home to the Radford Highlanders.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Radford (18-7, 11-3) raced out to a 13-0 lead before the Eagles put points on the scoreboard. The Highlanders increased their lead to as much as 19 points. Winthrop closed the quarter on a 7-2 run and trailed 23-9 after the first 10 minutes. Winthrop (2-23, 1-13) managed only four points in the second quarter as Radford put 22 on the scoresheet to lead 45-13 at the break.
The two sides traded buckets early in the third quarter before Radford closed the quarter on a 7-2 run and led 57-24 heading into the final 10 minutes. The Eagles again struggled to score in the final quarter, going scoreless from the field until Samariya Fantt's jumper with 25 seconds left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Anika Riley led the Eagles with nine points on the afternoon and added six rebounds. Uchechi Ufochuckwu added seven points and five rebounds. Winthrop struggled from the field, shooting only 17 percent for the game.
