Rock Hill, SC – It was a tough night at home for the Eagles with UNC Asheville pulling out a three-set sweep (27-29, 25-23, 12-25). The first two sets were highly contested, with several set lead changes in the first set. Winthrop missed crucial attacks and a few controversial calls by the officials which led to UNCA's first set victory.
Makayla Doyle had five kills and hit a .200 in the first set and
Carlie Skelton had 6 digs.
The Eagles went on a 4-0 run after being down 12-14 to gain a two-point advantage in the second set. The Bulldogs would bounce back to push the score to 18-15.
Siani Yamaguchi answered the Bulldog's run with a huge stuff block and
Lily Leistiko added in a kill to get back within one. The Eagles continued to trail through the set going down 24-19. They managed another 4-0 run to once again get within one, but the Bulldogs put away the set with a kill from Julia Borges.
The third set was all UNCA as they cruised to a set and match victory. Doyle led the Eagles with 10 kills (.200) and two blocks. Skelton finished the match with 13 digs. Cara Guthrie had a match high kills for UNCA with 15 (.300).
