FARMVILLE, VA – The Winthrop women's soccer team dropped its regular-season finale Saturday afternoon, 2-1 on the road to the Longwood Lancers.
The Eagles close the regular season with a 4-6 Big South mark and an 8-8-1 overall record. Despite the loss, Winthrop officially qualified for the conference tournament with UNC Asheville's loss to Radford Saturday.
While Winthrop has completed its 2018 campaign, the rest of the Big South will finish up the regular season on Tuesday. The Eagles will find out their seeding and opponent on Wednesday and will travel for the quarterfinal round next weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the first half as Longwood outshot the Eagles 12-2, with the Lancers forcing Winthrop goalie
Kelly Horan into four saves.
Only 3:22 into the second half, Longwood got on the board. The Lancers added an insurance goal in the 62
nd minute to go up 2-0.
Winthrop responded to Longwood's second goal only two minutes later as
Dylan Patterson found the back of the net off of a free kick. The Eagles couldn't garner any momentum from the tally as they went scoreless over the last 25 minutes of the contest

Longwood finished with a 25-10 advantage on shots including 9-4 on shots on goal. Horan finished with seven saves on the afternoon.
Natalie Royaards led the Eagles with three shots while Patterson added two.
