BOILING SPRINGS, NC -- The Winthrop women's soccer team saw its season end Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 loss on the road to the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament.
The Eagles close their season with an 8-9-1 overall record while the Bulldogs improve to 11-4-4 and advance to the conference semifinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Gardner-Webb got on the scoreboard in the 13th minute and extended its lead to 2-0 in the 29th minute on a penalty kick. Following Gardner-Webb's second goal, Winthrop had a couple quality chances on goal but couldn't get anything in the back of the net.
Over the first 13 minutes of the second half, Winthrop continued to have looks at goal but three early saves kept the Eagles off the board. Gardner-Webb capitalized on the Eagles inability to score, netting its third and fourth goals in the 68th and 73rd minutes for the 4-0 victory.

Kelly Horan finished with seven saves on the afternoon. Garnder-Webb outshot the Eagles 15-11 and each side finished with nine saves.
