Volleyball Beats Presbyterian College 3-2 on Friday

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop Volleyball team defeated Presbyterian College 3-2 on Friday at the Winthrop Coliseum.

Score: Winthrop 3, Presbyterian College 2 (25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 15-10)
Records: Winthrop 10-6 (2-1 BSC), Presbyterian College 4-11 (1-2, BSC)

EAGLES HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Phoebe Wu led the Eagles with 16 kills and 16 digs (Left in the third set with an injury)
  • Sophomore Siani Yamaguchi helped the Eagles with 53 assists and 20 digs
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
  • Winthrop and Presbyterian College kept it close in the beginning of the set
  • The Eagles started pulling away when Wu had back to back kills to make it 18-13
  • Wu finished the set with back to back kills to help Winthrop take it 25-18
Set 2
  • Both teams kept it close all set
  • The biggest lead was Presbyterian College when it went up 14-11
  • The Eagles fought back and eventually took the set 25-23 with a service ace by Wu and a kill by Wu
Set 3
  • The Blue Hose started on a 3-0 run until Winthrop took a 9-2 run
  • Presbyterian College worked its way back to tie it at 13-13
  • At 18 apiece, the Blue Hose went on a 7-2 run with 3 service aces
Set 4
  • Winthrop started on a 4-0 run by two attack errors by Allie Wright
  • The Blue Hose came back to take the lead at 16-15
  • Presbyterian College finished on a 9-5 run to beat the Eagles 25-20
Set 5
  • Neither team wanted to go down as they kept it close at 9-9
  • Winthrop scored two to force Presbyterian College to call a timeout
  • An attack error by Allie Wright and a kill by senior Keaupono Fey led the Eagles to a 15-10 win
