Women's Soccer Returns Home Wednesday for 6 p.m. Contest Against Longwood

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team returns to Eagle Field Wednesday for the first time in 17 days to host the Longwood Lancers in a Big South contest.

EAGLES AT A GLANCE
Winthrop opened conference play Saturday night on the road against the preseason favorite, Radford Highlanders.  Despite falling 5-2, the Eagles saw some strong attacking play.  Clara Conboy got the Eagles on the board with a header goal off a free kick from Izzy Barton.  Keeley Leising scored her first goal of the season after collecting a long throw from Courtney McLeod and placing it past the keeper.

SCOUTING LONGWOOD
Longwood enters Wednesday's contest with a 5-4-1 record and a 0-1 mark in the Big South.  The Lancers fell 1-0 to High Point in the team's conference opener Saturday.  Longwood has played a competitive schedule with victories over Marshall and UNC Greensboro. 

Longwood has scored only eight goals through 10 games this season while allowing seven.  Emily Mothersbaugh is the only Lancer with two goals this season while six others have one goal.  Emilie Kupsov leads the team with two assists and has also added one goal.  Maria Kirby has played every minute in goal for Longwood and sports a .857 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
Since Longwood came into the Big South in 2012, the Eagles are winless against the Lancers, going 0-4-1.  The tie came in 2015 at Eagle field where the two sides went scoreless through 110 minutes.  Winthrop has not scored against Longwood since the inaugural 2012 contest.

COMING UP NEXT
Wednesday's contest begins of stretch of four of the next five at home for the Eagles.  Winthrop will host Liberty on Saturday at 1 p.m.
