CHARLESTON, SC – The Winthrop volleyball team defeated both Alabama A&M and The Citadel in straight sets to capture the Bulldogs Invitational.

- Senior Keaupono Fey led the Eagles with 12 kills and finished with a .688 hitting percentage
- Sophomore Sydney Gunter had eight kills and three blocks assists

- Senior Keaupono Fey led the Eagles with 12 kills with a .440 hitting percentage and five blocks assists
- Sophomore Siani Yamaguchi had two service aces along with 33 assists
HOW IT HAPPENED (AGAINST ALABAMA A&M)
Set 1
- Winthrop started the set on a 11-4 run
- The Eagles led the entire set
- A kill by Jace Kleffner helped the Eagles win the set 25-16
Set 2
- The second set was much more competitive than the first
- Winthrop broke away from the Bulldogs to make it 20-12
- The Bulldogs fought back to end the set on a 8-5 run but Winthrop held on to win 25-20
Set 3
- The Eagles and the Bulldogs kept it close to start the set
- After tied 10-10, Winthrop went on a 12-2 run to make it 22-12
- Three straight kills by Keaupono Fey, Jace Kleffner, and Tanja Neyer helped the Eagles win the set 25-14
HOW IT HAPPENED (AGAINST THE CITADEL)
Set 1
- The Eagles started the set off hot until The Citadel came back to tie it up at 9-9
- Winthrop pulled away to make it 24-18 but the Citadel reeled off six straight points to tie it up at 24-24
- A kill by Keaupono Fey gave the Eagles the first set 26-24
Set 2
- The Eagles and the Bulldogs fought back and forth until the Bulldogs opened up a three-point advantage at 13-10
- Winthrop fought back and regained the lead 19-18
- The Eagles won the set 25-22 as they hit .344 in the second set
Set 3
- The Eagles started the set on a 11-5 run
- The Bulldogs fought back to be within one point
- Winthrop held The Citadel off to win the third set 25- 17 behind a .303 team hitting percentage and holding the Bulldogs to an attacking percentage of .059

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday to open up in conference play against Radford at 7 p.m.
