CHARLESTON, SC – The Winthrop volleyball team beat Jacksonville State 3-2 on Friday in the Bulldog Invitational at McAlister Field House.

- Sophomore Jace Kleffner led the Eagles with 20 kills and three digs
- Sophomore Siani Yamaguchi helped the Eagles with 5 kills and 51 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- Jacksonville State started the set on a 7-3 run
- Winthrop fought back and tied up the set 10-10
- The Eagles did not allow Jacksonville State to take over as they went on to win 25-21
Set 2
- The Gamecocks went on a 11-5 run to start the set
- Winthrop fought back to be just down by one at 21-20
- Jacksonville State held the Eagles off to win 25-22
Set 3
- Jacksonville State led the whole set
- The only time Winthrop made it close was at 13-13
- Jacksonville State won 25-19
Set 4
- The Eagles and Gamecocks fought back and forth until Jacksonville State went up 15-11
- Winthrop went on a 4-0 run to tie it 15-15
- Both teams kept it close until Winthrop won back to back points on kills by sophomore Jace Kleffner to win 25-23
Set 5
- Winthrop started the set on a 8-4 run to force Jacksonville State to call a timeout
- Winthrop held on to win the set 15-12
