CHARLESTON, SC – The Winthrop volleyball team beat Jacksonville State 3-2 on Friday in the Bulldog Invitational at McAlister Field House.

• Sophomore Jace Kleffner led the Eagles with 20 kills and three digs
• Sophomore Siani Yamaguchi helped the Eagles with 5 kills and 51 assists.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1

• Jacksonville State started the set on a 7-3 run
• Winthrop fought back and tied up the set 10-10
• The Eagles did not allow Jacksonville State to take over as they went on to win 25-21

Set 2

• The Gamecocks went on a 11-5 run to start the set
• Winthrop fought back to be just down by one at 21-20
• Jacksonville State held the Eagles off to win 25-22

Set 3

• Jacksonville State led the whole set
• The only time Winthrop made it close was at 13-13
• Jacksonville State won 25-19

Set 4

• The Eagles and Gamecocks fought back and forth until Jacksonville State went up 15-11
• Winthrop went on a 4-0 run to tie it 15-15
• Both teams kept it close until Winthrop won back to back points on kills by sophomore Jace Kleffner to win 25-23

Set 5

• Winthrop started the set on a 8-4 run to force Jacksonville State to call a timeout
• Winthrop held on to win the set 15-12
