Eagles Finish Regular Season Hosting Liberty Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day

ROCK HILL, SC – Looking to secure third place in the upcoming conference tournament, the Winthrop lacrosse team hosts Liberty Saturday at 1 p.m. to close out the regular season.

Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Eagles and prior to the contest the four Winthrop seniors, Lexie Walton, Grace Sisserson, Paige Jenkins and Sydney Cope will be honored.

The Eagles are riding a four-game winning streak and come into the contest at 4-2 in the conference and 7-9 overall.  Liberty is also 4-2 in the Big South and 5-11 overall.  Both teams are already assured of hosting a quarterfinal contest next weekend.  The winner of Saturday's matchup will earn the third seed while the loser will drop into the fourth spot.

Winthrop rolled past Gardner-Webb Wednesday evening, 23-2.  The Eagles got scoring production out of nine different players and were led by freshman Ellie Marindin who tallied nine points on five goals and four assists.

Liberty is coming off a close victory over Radford Wednesday, downing the Highlanders 13-10.  Brianna McCaffrey leads the Flames with 30 goals while Kayla Foster leads the team with 53 points on 23 goals and 30 assists.  Katherine Widrick has played the majority of minutes in goal recently for Liberty and has been allowing 12.54 goals per game while making 40 percent of her saves.

The Eagles are 4-1 all-time against the Flames, having not lost to Liberty since the team's first season in 2013.
