Softball Falls 4-1 To DePaul On Final Day Of Winthrop Inv.

Romine Tossed 4.1 Shutout Innings In Relief

ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop softball fell 4-1 to DePaul in the final game of the Winthrop Invitational, Sunday morning at Terry Field.

Winthrop falls to 11-10 overall while DePaul improves to 9-6. The Eagles will be off to Greensboro, NC next weekend for the Spartan Classic as they open up on Saturday, Mar. 12 at 9:30 a.m. vs. Delaware and will face UNC Greensboro at 2:30 p.m.

The Eagles allowed two run each of the first two innings. The Blue Demons scored two unearned runs in the first and then in the second when Haydn Christensen and Dylan Christensen hit back-to-back solo shots.

In the fourth inning the Eagles got one back as Morgan Lowers delivered an RBI single. Maddie Antone led off the inning with a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. The next two batters popped up and grounded out before Lowers came through.

Antone hit a one-out single to try and get things started in the sixth, but the next two batters lined out and struck out. Lowers led off the seventh with a single, but three batters later was thrown out at second on a fielder's choice to end the game. Winthrop finished with five runners left on base.

Freshman Madyson Watson made the start in the circle for the Eagles as she tossed 1.2 innings allowing four runs (two earned) on two hits with a walk and a strikeout as she falls to 3-1. Sophomore Keleigh Romine tossed the final 4.1 innings allowing just two hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
