CONWAY, SC – The Winthrop baseball team fell to San Francisco, 11-6, and 18th-ranked Coastal Carolina, 8-3, on Saturday on the second day of the Tideland Health Classic at Springs Brooks Stadium.
Winthrop (4-6) has now lost six straight as it heads into the final game of the classic on Sunday against Albany. The game will be played at Pelicans Park instead of Spring Brooks Stadium beginning at 12 noon.

Wesley Williams smacked his first collegiate home run, while senior
Anthony Paulsen, and sophomore
Hunter Lipscomb each went 1 for 4 at the plate with a RBI to lead the Eagle hitters.
Eagle freshman
Colton Rendon (0-2) suffered the loss as he threw six innings, allowed five runs on nine hits, and struck out three. Dons pitcher Daniel Slominski (1-1) earned the win as he threw six innings, allowed three runs on three hits, and struck out five.
The Dons scored five runs in the first four innings as they had two home runs, two doubles, and three singles. The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the third when sophomore
Grant English doubled, and senior
CJ Hicks walked. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and English scored on a groundout by sophomore
Brandon Fite scored English, and a double by Paulsen drove home Hicks.
Winthrop added a run in the fifth, one in the seventh highlighted by Williams's home run, and two more in the eighth inning. San Francisco added insurance runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings.

Winthrop first baseman English went 1 for 3 with two RBI and Paulsen went 2 for 5, including a solo home run to lead the Eagles against defending College World Series Champion Coastal Carolina.
Winthrop sophomore
Thad Harris (0-2) suffered the loss as he pitched seven innings, allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts. Austin Kitchen (1-1) earned the win in relief for the Chanticleers as he threw one shutout inning despite giving up two hits. He recorded two strike outs. Coastal starter Andrew Beckwith went 5.2 innings, allowed three runs on seven hits, and fanned 10 Eagles in the no-decision performance.
Paulsen homered in the bottom of the third inning to give Winthrop an early 1-0 led. The Chanticleers tied it up in the bottom of the third and took the lead in the bottom of the fourth.
The Eagles tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth as English singled to center scoring two runs.
Coastal Carolina reclaimed the lead and added insurance runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth inning to win 8 to 3.
