Clark Nets Career-High Six Goals In Lacrosse's 17-12 Loss At Cincinnati Friday

CINCINNATI, OH – Junior Katie Clark scored a career-high six goals Friday afternoon but it wasn't enough to propel the Winthrop lacrosse team to victory as the Eagles fell 17-12 on the road to the Cincinnati Bearcats.

The Eagles fall to 3-6 on the season with the setback while Cincinnati improves to 4-5 on the year.

In a back-and-forth first half neither side was able to amass more than a two-goal edge.  In the final 15 minutes of the opening half, Winthrop was able to run off four straight goals to turn a two-goal deficit into a two-goal lead at 7-5 with just under five minutes to play in the half.  Cincinnati was able to pull one goal back just before the break to go into halftime, down 7-6.

Cincinnati was able to tie the contest at 7-7 less than two minutes into the second half.  Winthrop responded quickly with two goals in the next 90 seconds to go back up 9-7.  After the quick start, the scoring slowed over the next eight minutes with each side netting one goal and the Eagles continued to lead by two at 10-8 with 18:14 remaining.

Winthrop's offense struggled after going up two goals, managing zero shots for nearly 14 minutes before the Eagles scored with 4:28 on the clock.  During Winthrop's offensive struggles, the Bearcats scored seven straight goals, going up 15-10 with just over six minutes to play.  Despite scoring twice in the final five minutes, the deficit was too much for the Eagles to overcome, falling 17-12.

Clark scored her six goals on seven shots and also led the team in ground balls with four.  Katherine Judge led the team with seven draw controls while also scoring two goals and four other Eagles each tallied one goal.

The Eagles will continue on the road, closing out their non-conference schedule Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest against the Michigan Wolverines.
